New Puppies Born 10/26!!! All have been Reserved
November 9th - Week 2. These guys are literally growing like weeds. It seems like they're growing right while we are watching them! They just started to open their eyes this morning. They can't quite focus yet and they're fun to watch. They're starting to walk their little wobbly walk (just their front legs now), play together and growl at each other. We had a couple of nights where we actually slept through the night, but now when one of them gets away from the crowd they get REALLY upset so we find ourselves up a few times each night to snug them in the with bunch. We might not have to, but we keep a baby monitor in the room with them to make sure we can hear how things are going. Sitka is starting to stay outside more with Koda. She can get pretty bored just hanging around sleeping puppies.
November 16th - Week 3 - Well they are REALLY cute now. They don't look like guinea pigs any longer. They're all walking really well and wrestling/playing with each other. Growls too! They're all so adorable. We feel so lucky that we get to play with these beautiful babies every day for at least 2 months. We started giving them food (watered down kibbles) and they're starting to eat that slowly. They all weigh over 6 pounds now. All little fluffy chubby balls of fur. It's hard to believe they'll be ready to go to their new homes in a little over a month!
November 24 - Week 4 - Puppies went outside for a little field trip Friday. It was 56 degrees here!! They were a little hesitant but mom was there the entire time (and so were we). Our 5 grandchildren stayed over the weekend so all the puppies got extra lovin. They're getting cuter and cuter every day. We are very thankful we get to give these beautiful babies a good start in life. We are very pleased with the people that these puppies have chosen and I'm sure they will continue on to keep them loving parts of their families. We've met some really great people all through the years. People who love dogs seem to be very special people.
December 1 - Week 5 - Puppies have been sleeping outside now for 4 nights. Everything is going well. Sitka is on watch and we still listen with the baby monitors. Some nights we don't get a lot of sleep. It's like having a baby - well many babies. They're so sweet. They will all be used to going outside to the bathroom so it will be easier to house train them. They can maneuver stairs now like pros. They know where they're supposed to sleep and chewing on lots of trees and bushes. They almost change daily - keep getting bigger and bigger. Everybody is very healthy mentally and physically. The absolutely LOVE to be cuddled. They're eating solid food and drinking water on their own but Sitka is still letting them nurse (but she's got a lot of scratches on her tummy, poor baby) She's teaching them not to bite though, which is one of the reasons we lose sleep- babies crying because they have just gotten disciplined! I can't believe we only have 3 weeks with most of them :( I took some videos today and if I can figure out again how to get them on this website I will. Til next week!
December 13 - (almost week 7) - Did I forget to write last week? It appears so! I'm so sorry! I didn't have any time to get the videos on and I can't lay on the ground outside - it was 7 degrees a couple nights ago. The puppies can stay outside when it gets that cold but they could not stay alone. SO when you get them home they will have to stay inside with you til they are bigger. They get into a great big pile. We also have a heat lamp and a heated pad for them to lay on. We check on them through our window (our aquarium) and they aren't even in a bunch! That means they're nice and toasty warm. They all come into our little kitchen to play with all the new toys I got them. They are growling and fighting even more and louder now and when the train comes by or a siren down the highway - WOW can they make a lot of noise howling!! They're so adorable! I just can't think of them leaving yet. 8 weeks old a week from tomorrow! They're going to the Vet tomorrow morning to get their first puppy shots. It's quite the event. We have to take two kennels, put 3 in each kennel. I wait in the car with them and Tom brings them in one-by-one because we don't want them walking on the floors of the Vet's office. You never know what kind of nasty things could be lurking on the floors. Hopefully, nobody gets carsick. That has happened in the past. Koda gets car sick still. Lily was spoken for today. Her new name is Juneau. Sometimes I wish we would have to keep one because we love them so much. If I did that every time though, we would be overrun with dogs! Koda got to meet one of the pups yesterday. Sitka didn't mind one being out of their area but when a bunch get out she gets a little frantic. Koda just sniffed her and the pup sniffed him. It was love at first sight! I'll write more when we get back from the vet.
December 19 - (Pups almost 8 weeks old). All went well at the vet. Nobody got car sick! They are great. Such mellow puppies. Usually there's screaming the entire 20 minute drive but I put some music on and everybody mellowed out and even fell asleep. We park right outside the door and bring the pups in one at a time. The staff was overwhelmed with cuteness. They said they'd never seen such fluffy puppies. Everybody got their first checkup, vaccinations and wormers. They passed with flying colors. Juneau will be flying out this coming Friday if the temperatures are above 10 degrees. It's going to be really sad to start seeing them go to their new homes but it's also exciting to know 6 families are getting a brand new beautiful puppy to love. I'm very happy with all of our families. I usually am. We interview all our potential puppy families because we want to make sure it's going to be successful. We love these little guys and want them to be healthy and happy for the rest of their long lives!
Today they went out into the big yard. The snow melted in their puppy yard and they got pretty messy. There's lots of nice, fresh snow in the big yard. They stayed pretty close to each other and mom. They'll get another field trip tomorrow :)
I got it!! Video of Six little puppies playing in the dirty snow. We need more snow!!
