Sunday, November 11th - All of our puppies have been adopted and we are excited about the great people that came into our lives to call these babies their own. 5 of them left yesterday so there is quite a difference in the numbers now. We're on our way to take Leroy to the airport. He's traveling to his new family in Oakland, CA. (infact, gotta go take him now.) I'll finish this later.
Wednesday, November 7th - I'm Swedish so I can say this - UFFDA! We took all 8 pups to the Vet today. It was really cool because we let them out of the front gate, I stood by the van and called them over. They all came running so we grabbed them and put them into 3 kennels. We got to the vet almost 45 minutes early because we thought it was going to take us much longer than it actually did. I believe we did it in less than 10 minutes. They all checked out great at the vet and they were the hit of the week, month - maybe year. They all got their checkups, shots and wormers. I have to say I haven't heard that much howling - EVER! We take them in one at a time so as not to let their feet touch the floor. It's like a doctors office so you just don't know what germs are lurking. Anyway, one pup goes in and the another one goes out. It took about an hour an a half. Somebody got car sick and someone else pooped. Then we thought it might go just as easy to bring them back to their yard - nope. They liked real freedom. 5 of them ran to the neighbors but we called them and they came back. They like us! LOL Tom had to run and get some food. They are going through a 30# bag every other day now! I told Louie's parents it was once/week......I was wrong!! So Tom goes to get the food and I was laying more straw. I had to take the wheelbarrow back out the gate and one escaped. So I shut the door behind me (which locked) to run and get him (it was Leroy). I went to the front door to get back in the house but Tom had locked it. There was no way for me to get in. SO Leroy and I sat on the front step (and lucky me) - Leroy was one that had stepped in the poop in the kennel. We both need a bath now. SO...this was our day. Glad it's over and they're all healthy. The infection is gone in Jake's tail (which we knew) but wanted to hear if he thought the fur would grow back. Vet couldn't tell us. SO......Jakie boy has a story - a tale of his tail. He's so sweet and beautiful we know there's someone out there for him. Until that time - we get to keep him and love him.
Saturday, November 3rd - It's hard to believe how fast the time has gone :( Puppies are now 7 weeks old. Only one more week and they're old enough to go to their new homes. I remember growing up when puppies only needed to be 6 weeks old to leave their mothers. I'm glad people wised up. They're learning so much. This past week they've been exploring the big back yard, along with their dad. Koda is so sweet to them. Sitka still gets a little nervous - or something. She barks at him when he "talks" to the puppies. I'll try to put a video on here with him doing that. He's trying to get them to have respect for older, bigger dogs and talks to them and nudges them with his nose to get them to roll over on their backs. They're smiling the entire time. It's nice for Koda now because he was pretty isolated up til the puppies were almost 6 weeks old. Just us old folks spending some time with him. He does get pretty nervous when it appears they're going to nurse from him. He runs away from them. They all weigh over 15 pounds now and it's hard to round them up and sometimes we have to pick the up to put them back in their smaller yard. I just checked my phone, and I have well over 100 videos just of puppies on there! Anyway, enjoy the new pictures we took just now - before the rain starts :( We night even get snow tonight. That will be fun for these guys. Malamutes LOVE snow!! They're all going to visit the vet for the first time to get checked out and their first puppy shots this coming week. That's always exciting and with 8 puppies......well, we've never done that before!! We'll probably have to take a nap when we get home!! LOL
Saturday, October 27 - Puppies are 6 weeks yesterday! The time has gone way too fast. Today they got introduced to their dad. Koda is the sweetest guy. Sitka gets a little nervous at first and barks at him but then she wants him to show the puppies how they should roll over and show their tummies. That's the way to greet a big dog. It'll come though. In the next two weeks they are going to grow a lot. They went out into the big yard. There's so much to explore out there. So they played with Koda while Sitka watched. Everybody had a great time but half of them decided it was a big day and they needed a nap. They are so heavy it's hard to carry two at a time any more. I forgot to weigh them today but I'm guessing they are over 15#'s. I'll try to do that tomorrow. They just love your attention - just like the big dogs. It's so cute but when I was taking the pictures of them today all the rest of them were chewing on my socks. Ouch! They've got sharp teeth so beware! I'll try to post some videos on this site. I took a bunch. Two more weeks and they get to go to their new homes for an entirely new adventure.
Saturday, October 20th - Puppies have been outside and staying out all night now for two nights. They're doing very well. I guess it's too warm in their little house with the heat lamp and the heating pad because they're not sleeping under it. They're all around the outside and even out of their little house. It got down to 35 degrees last night so thought we should have those warmers on. I forget they're Alaskan Malamutes! Even for puppies 35 degrees is nothing. I'm reminded that the heat is much more to worry about with these guys then the cold. They can't quite manage the stairs to get up to mom so they'll start crying so we get up and put them on top of the deck. Pretty soon they'll be maneuvering the entire yard so we might get some better sleep :) We will introduce them to their papa this weekend. He's very good with them but Sitka is still very protective at this point. As soon as she remembers how sweet he is to her babies she'll relax. Then she'll be giving him the signal to be more strict. They'll be roaming the big yard soon and Sitka gets very nervous. I can see her mind working and saying "I can't keep track of all these 8 puppies" She looks at us with those big eyes and says "HELP!"
October 16th - Puppies ventured outside with me today. They were a bit nervous trying to manage the steps but they all made it. Stairs can be very scary for puppies. I wish I would have had time to take some videos but I was too busy making sure they didn't fall down them. Sitka gets a little nervous too but soon they'll all be running around back there and she'll be less nervous and will let Koda play with them too. That will probably be a couple more weeks though. So, I'll try to write what the day brought if it's something special.
October 15th - Puppies are 4 weeks old
Sorry I didn't post this Friday. I try but it's been very busy with these guys. We've only had 6 in the past and 8 is quite a bit more. They're growing so fast, it's sad for us. We only have one more month left with them. They started eating kibbles a few days ago. Went from "pablum" to kibbles in three days. They'll be going outside this week for sure. I'm going through a lot of "diapers". It's supposed to be nice for the rest of the week so it'll be a good transition. They're all over 7 pounds now with one at over 8! Sweetums is quite the athlete and able to climb over the gate now (she's also the one who is over 8#'s).
All the grandkids were over this past weekend. They have always played a lot with our puppies and some are teenagers now and still never tire of puppies. The youngest grandchild says he's not going home. He's going to live with us and the puppies forever. The puppies all love to be held. We think it's because we gave them so many baths because Sitka had a hard time keeping up with them. They all LOVE baths! (this will be nice for their new owners!)
They've all got their nice sharp teeth and claws now and love to use them on your ankles and shoelaces.
They're all fighting and growling at each other. It's quite entertaining.
I'm sure I'll be back with more pictures this week. Pictures and videos are much nicer and brighter outside.
October 5, 2018 Puppies are 3 weeks old!!
We name them temporarily instead of calling them Male 1, etc. Although we could just name female, female because she's the only one :) But I like Sweetums. The name our youngest grandson picked for last year's litter. All the grandkids are coming over Sunday to name them so they'll most likely have different names after Sunday. It's ok. They don't have any idea what their names are!
I will post weekly updates along with their new pictures. They all weigh around 5 pounds today. They're adorable and growing like weeds!! They all actually love to get baths because there are so many we had to help mom keep them clean. So they'e been getting baths since day 2. They're mostly sleeping through the night now with an occasional outburst. We keep a baby monitor with them all the time so we know if someone is stuck behind mom or just being the baby they are. We do have a wait list so if you wish to be added give us a call!! They'll be ready to go to their new homes after November 9th.
All of these babies will be black and white. As you will see by Koda's puppy picture he went from black and tan to black and white. They all will but the Koda look-alikes will have more black on their faces like their dad.
